BACKGROUND

NPower is a national nonprofit that provides IT services and training to nonprofits and young adults. We accomplish this by harnessing the power of technology and the support of socially responsible companies and corporate IT volunteers. NPower's services are delivered through three programs- The Community Corps, Technology Service Corps ("TSC") and IT Professional Services. Our community of corporate partners, nonprofits, foundations, dedicated staff and skilled volunteers provides NPower with unparalleled reach that allows us to have a profound impact on thousands of local communities and hundreds of young adults.

NPower operates an innovative and very successful workforce development program, Technology Service Corps, which engages young adults to invest in their future by experiencing hands-on technology training (help desk, troubleshooting, networking, & web development), professional training, and a technology internship, while simultaneously benefiting the community at large. The students also prepare for an A+ Certification. TSC serves underserved 18-25 year olds who are rediscovering their potential. These are talented young adults who are prepared to transform their own lives, their community, and society by harnessing their intellect and hard work through technology.


POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to create and manage technology instruction, designed to improve Technology Service Corps member's knowledge and proficiency of technology in a designated region. The instructor works with TSC Program Management to ensure programs are being measured effectively, and data is being analyzed to determine program goals/outcomes. The instructor will be responsible for creating an innovative technology curriculum that caters to different student learning styles such as; Visual/Verbal, Visual/ Nonverbal, Tactile/Kinesthetic, and Auditory/ Verbal for Technology Service Corps members from the ages of 18-25.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction/Classroom Management/ Curriculum Design/ Student Evaluation/Administration

  • Daily instruction of IT: Help Desk, Network Admin, Database Administration and Web Development skills to a class of 25-30 per session.
  • Teach the following modules:
  • Cisco IT Essentials Curriculum
  • Desktop Support and Troubleshooting: Windows XP & Vista& 7; Network Connectivity; Printing; Internet and Email Applications.
  • Networking: Wireless, Peer to Peer & Client Server Technology and Applications: 2003/2008, TCP/IP, Disaster Recovery & Backup Procedures, Active Directory, File and Print Service, Network Security, and Imaging Software like Ghost.
  • Database Administration: CRM Software such as Salesforce.
  • Basic web development: HTML, JAVA script, WYSIWYG editor, & web image editing.
  • Train, prepare and work to maintain at least an 80 percent passing rate for the A+ Certification Exam (Both 701 and 702 tests).
  • Work to maintain at least an 80 percent student retention rate.
  • Increase critical thinking, analysis, and problem solving skills of students.
  • Provide guidance and structure for self-directed and life-long learning.
  • Motivate students to actively participate and engage in learning.
  • Be able to impart real-world scenarios that are outside of "core" course of study (example: handling server down-time with users, etc).
  • Produce and instruct high-quality, well-prepared classes where students learn, are challenged and enjoy the learning process.
  • Ensure students' technical skills meet needs of internship partners and job placement requirements.
  • Coach and facilitate awareness of customer service and phone support skills.
  • Demonstrate successful classroom management.
  • Manage TSC Instructor Assistant in regards to schedule, classroom, training, and administrative responsibilities.
  • Work Closely with TSC Career Developer to maintain and create internship host partnerships.
  • Work with TSC team to develop and refine curriculum.
  • Create Daily Lesson Plans for developed curriculum that includes Objectives, Goals, Activities, Terminology, Materials Needed, and Labs. Must be submitted to TSC Program Management for review and approval.
  • Create technology training syllabus and Rubrics system for grading students.
  • Create Seating Charts on a weekly basis for classes.
  • Troubleshoot Classroom Technical Issues. Work with NPower's technology support team to do so.
  • Maintain and Keep a professional, clean, and organized classroom environment at all times.
  • Provide regular, accurate and timely feedback to the students and staff relative to their performance.
  • Contribute to assessment tools that measure learning and growth of students and to ensure successful transition of students into jobs and careers.
  • Create and Find Technology Task Force opportunities for classes. Work closely with professional networks and The Community Corps at NPower to do so.
  • Manage and coach student project teams during Days of Service or Technology Task Force Projects at nonprofit site locations.
  • Help maintain an environment of positive, helpful, open communications.
  • Advise, support and advocate for students throughout the program and during crucial transitions.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the program's contribution to its students and program placement sites.
  • Assist Workforce Team (Internship Coordinator, Job Developer, and Alumni Coordinator) with managing and preparing students for TSC site visits, Guest Lectures, and Professional Development Workshops.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

At minimum one of the following must be met:

  • Experience teaching Cisco IT Essentials Course.
  • Must have an A+ Certification.
  • A two-year or four-year college degree.
  • At least one of the following additional technology certifications: MCP, MCSE, MCSA, Network +, Server +, Security +, CCNA.
