NPower Launches an Office in Delaware
NPower was founded in Seattle in 1998, with seed funding from Microsoft, to address the lack of technology resources and training that was available to nonprofits at a reasonable rates. NPower now operates in 12 states across the country and collectively serves over 4,000 nonprofit organizations each year.
NPower’s newest office opened in Wilmington Delaware on September 9, 2009. Governor Jack Markell was in attendance at the launch party to officially welcome NPower to the state. The party took place at the headquarters of ING Direct (one of NPower’s corporate partners) and was open to all members of Delaware’s nonprofit and corporate communities.
Delaware was hand-picked as the location of NPower's new office, in part, because of the responsiveness of the state's top decision makers. NPower Delaware's Executive Director, Patrick Callihan, said in a statement to NPower's Corporate CIO Council (which includes Chief Information Officers from 32 area corporations including ING Direct CIO Rudy Wolfs) that "Delaware's top officials found the time to meet with us and let us know what an important resource they felt NPower was for the state. Their level of involvement and care for us was a real sign that we were in the right place and that we were making the right decision to expand despite a tough economy."
Governor Jack Markell has stated that he is excited to be able to bring such a unique resource to Delaware's nonprofit community. NPower's affordable technology services are especially needed at this time, when charitable giving is down for nearly all nonprofits. NPower relieves some of the financial burden put on nonprofits when it comes to technology and also helps them use technology more efficiently so they can help the most people in need. In a nutshell, nonprofits stay in business and improve the impact of their work because of NPower's help.
There are over 2,000 nonprofits in Delaware, and nearly half of those are in Wilmington. This makes Wilmington a natural place for NPower to establish a presence. Their new office is housed in the Community Services building in Wilmington, home to over 80 other nonprofit organizations.
