Hale House Center

Hale House Center Volunteering Corporation: NYSE Euronext

Project Type: Hardware Installation

Challenge

Hale House Center's core mission to support families and children in need hasnt changed much in the 40 years since it was founded by Clara McBride Hale. What has changed is the growing number of children and families it helps and the critical need for an IT system to coordinate the centers far-reaching activities. As one Hale House official explained: We do have state-of-the-art technology. But for 1978. The center received a donation of new computers and servers but Hale House had neither staff nor funding to set it up.

Solution

The Community Corps matched two IT professionals from NYSE Euronext who successfully built an effective and efficient IT network for staff operations and a computer lab for disconnected families in the community.

Impact

Jose of NYSE Euronext explains what volunteering meant for him: "What I really gained from this engagement is the satisfaction of knowing that through technology and through my skill-set, I was able to give a great organization like Hale House the right tools to continue their work for the community." Mildred from Hale House was extremely grateful to to both volunteers for their help : "Getting these computers and then having the right volunteers to set them up and get them running has been a godsend. Those two volunteers were like two celebrities walking through the door. I was more excited to see them than if Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio walked through the door!"
