CDC Assistance

Funded by:  Living Cities
In partnership with:  LISC & The Enterprise Foundation

Project Details

In 2002 and 2003, NPower and Living Cities partnered to bring technology capacity building services to CDCs in targeted communities. This page has links to a variety of resources that were generated as part of our work together as well as other links to helpful resources for CDCs.

What is the CDC Technology Assistance Project?
In collaboration with LISC and Enterprise, NPower partnered with CDCs in: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Miami, New York, San Antonio, San Francisco (Bay Area), Seattle, and the Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St. Paul).

What were the outcomes?
Our efforts have resulted in two different benefits. First of all, the CDCs we have worked with have received direct training and consulting services that have helped them build the capacity of their organizations to deliver on their valuable missions. Second, our exposure to so many CDCs allowed us to develop a number of resources that address needs that many CDCs have. We have codified that knowledge a set of guides, available below, that address issues of specific interest of CDCs.

Estimating and Meeting CDC's Technology Capacity Needs (File type: Acrobat PDF)
This paper emerges from concerns about the ability of the nonprofit sector to take advantage of the opportunities created by the information and communications revolution.  It outlines the building blocks of technology capacity and looks at the status of technology in a recent sample of CDCs as compared to technology standards developed by Living Cities and its partners.
