Digitally Empowered and Joyful
The St. Louis Community Help Desk powered by AT&T recently celebrated 50 community members representing more than 20 zip codes across the region who completed a series of digital literacy workshops and received laptops to support their continued growth. Through hands-on instruction in computer basics and essential digital skills, participants left empowered with increased confidence to communicate via email, access digital resources, and navigate the internet safely.
Upon successful completion, each participant received a refurbished laptop to support continued independent learning and the use of technology in their daily lives. As participants used the same device throughout the workshop series, from initial setup to final customization, they built both familiarity using a laptop that was fully set up for their needs and preferences. From creating shortcuts and adjusting accessibility settings for vision and hearing to bookmarking frequently used websites, participants left not only with new knowledge, but also with a device that felt truly personalized for them.
These workshops were made possible through the generous support of AT&T. We deeply value AT&T’s collaboration and shared vision to provide individuals with the essential resources they need to thrive in the digital era and help narrow the digital divide. This collaboration advances digital inclusion and literacy, ensuring more community members have access to opportunities for economic advancement through upskilling. AT&T’s support also enables NPower graduates to share their skills and knowledge within their own communities.
By the Numbers
100% of survey respondents reported feeling more confident using their laptop after completing the workshop series.
42% of participants mentioned learning web browsing, internet navigation, and search engine use.
27% learned foundational computer and laptop skills, including setup and everyday operation.
22% gained skills in identifying scams, understanding HTTPS, and protecting personal information
The skills I gained, along with the laptop, will allow me to be creative…because my dreams don’t expire. This computer and understanding more than the basics will help me create the ideas I am thinking about.
